DOWNTOWN DREAM

Downtown is a lot safer than how it is thought of by Eastsiders, Westsiders or the environs (“Ace in the Hall,” by Diane Haithman, Aug. 4).
My office is located downtown in Little Tokyo and I live in Angelino Heights. We have an effective neighborhood watch and our own security patrol. There is a lot of dog walking and community support between neighbors. Plus we have some of the best grocery shopping in all of L.A.
I have thought many times how delightful it would be to go to the Central Library, make a visit to Cathedral Square (a place for everyone), have dinner at one of the fine restaurants downtown and then go to a concert at Disney Hall. This is what I would call a civilized day in the life of one who resides downtown!

Disney Hall in no way blends in with the beauty of the Music Center. As a former resident of Los Angeles, when I first saw the design of the structure, I said to myself, “They must be joking.” I wouldn’t contribute a dime.
