ON THE SCENE

As an independent filmmaker who has lived and worked in Echo Park for over a decade, I found your piece on the “Silver Lake scene” to be laughable at best and a bit insulting at worst (“Now That’s L.A.,” by Heidi Siegmund Cuda, Aug. 4).

It’s great that the media are finally giving this very eclectic and broad-based scene its due. But before you crank up the hype machine and start blowing the “next Seattle” trumpet, do a little more homework, get some distance from the PR-meisters and perhaps talk to some people who aren’t so obviously trying to edge themselves into the limelight to strike it rich.
