SALT LAKE CITY — Patrik Augusta had two goals and one assist Wednesday night as the Ice Dogs strengthened their International Hockey League playoff hopes by defeating the Utah Grizzlies, 5-2.
The victory was the first in eight tries this season for the Ice Dogs over the Grizzlies and snapped a seven-game road winless streak for Los Angeles.
Dave Smith scored his fifth short-handed goal midway through the second period to put the Ice Dogs (32-31-12) ahead, 2-1, and they stayed on top the rest of the way.
The Ice Dogs, who have never been below the .500 mark, took over sole possession of seventh place in the Western Conference.
