IRVINE — Three robbers barged into a computer components business, bound and gagged an employee and escaped with computer equipment valued at about $170,000, police said.
The robbery occurred at Simmsun USA in the 17900 block of Sky Park North, where a company employee was waiting for a truck scheduled to pick up a shipment at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Irvine Police Sgt. Phil Povey said.
The employee heard a truck arriving and opened the rear door to let the driver in. Instead, three robbers, one brandishing a handgun, stormed in and ordered the employee to lie face down on the floor, Povey said.
One robber tied and gagged the employee while the others rounded up computer chips and CD-ROM drives. The robbers then fled in what appeared to be a diesel truck. The employee was unharmed, Povey said.
One of the robbers wore a dark ski mask and another covered his face with a bandanna, he said.
Police ask that anyone with information about the robbery call investigators at (714) 724-7160.
