ANAHEIM : Shuttle Picks Up Halted Bus Service

Rail commuters using the Anaheim Stadium nMetrolink station can now get downtown or to the city’s resort area on a new shuttle bus.

The 17-passenger shuttle, which began service Monday morning, will follow the same route and timetable as a weekday bus line that was discontinued by the Orange County Transportation Authority last week.

The shuttle is being provided free to Metolink users by the Anaheim Transportation Network, a nonprofit association formed by the city and local companies to help ease traffic by encouraging ride-sharing and the use of public transit.

Kelly Vasquez, executive director, said the association moved quickly to set up the shuttle service so that commuters accustomed to taking the bus would not get out of the habit.

“The only change commuters will see,” she said, “is the vehicle,” which is a minibus that runs on clean-burning liquid petroleum gasoline.

Funding for the shuttle came from grants provided by OCTA and the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Starting Dec. 11, the shuttle will make midday stops at some of the resort area hotels, the Disney ice skating complex and the Anaheim Plaza shopping center.
