Shawn Brass
Sonora, Senior
Football/Running back
Midway through the second quarter Friday, Brass fumbled at the Garden Grove one-yard line and Brian Jones picked up the ball and ran 99 yards for a touchdown. By the end of the game, Brass had more than made up for his mistake. He scored a school-record five touchdowns, including three in the fourth quarter, as Sonora rallied to beat Garden Grove, 32-20. Brass, who rushed for 130 yards in 19 carries, scored the final three times he touched the ball. His final run, a 26-yarder, was his longest and most impressive. “The last run he had was basically all on his own,” Sonora Coach Mark Takkinen said. “We really didn’t do a good job of blocking. He was actually hit twice behind the line of scrimmage.”
