ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : On Shaky Ground

When the Long Beach earthquake struck on March 10, 1933, Orange County also shuddered. Nine out of every 10 businesses in Costa Mesa were severely damaged, as was the county courthouse in Santa Ana.
Hundreds of lives in Orange and Los Angeles counties were reportedly saved by bootleggers who donated large quantities of alcohol for medicinal use.
