Donation to Spawn Fish Hatchery Plan

Ventura County supervisors accepted a $4,000 donation from a state agency Tuesday that will be used to create a fish hatchery program for county high school students.
Trout in the Classroom, as the program is called, is a joint venture of the state Department of Fish and Game and Sespe Flyfishers Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes ecology.
The $4,000 donation, contributed by the state department, will be used to purchase aquariums and other equipment that will be used in the six-week course, officials said.
During the classroom sessions, which will be led by a Department of Fish and Game instructor, students will study the development of trout. They will then release the fish into a stream or river.
Nine county high schools have already expressed interest, said Frank Anderson, an official with the county’s General Services Agency.
