The Art Institute of California in Laguna Beach has received a $2,500 grant from the Peter and Masha Plotkin Memorial Foundation to fund scholarships for five incoming freshman students. The recipients--Yih-Shin (Ian) Lu, Dominique Rippy, Juan Rubio, Joseph Schwab and Tara Zettl--were selected on the basis of merit and potential. They will be honored at a reception featuring their artwork on Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. at the foundation’s gallery in Lake Forest. It’s open to the public, but reservations are required (call [714] 497-3309). The Art Institute is Orange County’s only independent four-year college of art and design. Plotkin Foundation scholarships support students pursuing a bachelor of fine arts degree in the visual arts.
