VENTURA : Speedboats to Race at Harbor Saturday
- Share via
Dozens of high-powered speedboats will converge on Ventura Harbor this weekend for an American Power Boat Assn. race.
The Powerboat Magazine Ventura Offshore Challenge will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, organizers said. Registration is Friday, and the harbor wet pits where the boats are docked will be open to the public Friday and Saturday morning.
The racing is limited to boaters who have paid club-membership and race-entry fees, which amount to hundreds of dollars. Viewing the event is free, however, and can be done from the Ventura Harbor, the Ventura Pier or privately owned boats in the Santa Barbara Channel.
Race courses vary in length from 60 to 100 miles for different classes of boats.
