Lightning Injures 4 Through Their Shoes

Associated Press

A father and three sons playing golf were injured by lightning that raced into their bodies through their spiked shoes. The men were hit Tuesday at the Wyckoff Country Club course after they ran to a small pavilion for shelter from a sudden storm, Lt. Ralph Dinapoli said.

“Lightning struck and hit a nearby tree, caromed off the tree and into the ground. They were wearing golf spikes. That’s how they were hit, through the shoes,” he said. The father was in critical but stable condition. The sons were less seriously injured.
