American Movie Classics marks Memorial Day with screenings of the war films “Away All Boats,” “Corvette K-225,” “To Hell and Back,” “Halls of Montezuma,” “Hell Is for Heroes,” “Wing and a Prayer” and “In Harm’s Way,” 6 a.m.-3 a.m. Sunday.
TNT counters with “Operation TNT: Offerings at the Wall,” a three-day marathon starting Sunday with “The Dirty Dozen” (8 a.m.); “Beach Red” (11:30 a.m.); “Up Periscope” (2 p.m.); “The Devil’s Brigade” (4:30 p.m.); “Flying Leathernecks” (7:30 p.m.); “The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission” (10 p.m. and 1:15 a.m.); “Back to Bataan” (3:15 a.m.) and “Destination Tokyo” (5:30 a.m.). On Monday, there is “Merrill’s Marauders” (8:45 a.m.); “Battleground” (11 a.m.); “Torpedo Run” (1:45 p.m.); “They Were Expendable” (4 p.m.); “The Dirty Dozen” (7 p.m.); “Ambush Bay” (10:30 p.m.) and “Go for Broke!” (1 a.m.).
The Tuesday films are “Battle Cry” (5 p.m.), “None but the Brave” (8:15 p.m.), “Men of the Fighting Lady” (10:30 p.m.) and “Bitter Victory” (12:45 a.m.). The marathon will be interspersed with segments based on Vietnam veterans’ letters.
Also on Sunday, “National Geographic Explorer” presents “The Lost Fleet of Guadalcanal,” at 6:30 p.m. on TBS.
On Monday, The Learning Channel carries “Battles to Remember,” a chronicle of seminal conflicts. The day consists of: “World War I” (9 a.m. and 11 p.m.); “War” (10 a.m. and 10 p.m.); “The Great War” (11 a.m.); “That War Korea” (noon); “Battles That Changed the World: Zulu Wars” (1 p.m.); “Battles: The Roman Invasion of Britain” (1:30 p.m.); “Battles: Napoleon’s Road to Moscow” (2 p.m.); “Battles: World War II: The Somme” (2:30 p.m.); “Touring Civil War Battlefields” (3-6 p.m.) and “D-Day” (6 and 8 p.m.).
