Wilson to Hold Summit on Fathers, Families

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Pete Wilson will hold a one-day summit in Burbank on June 13 to discuss the importance of a father’s role in family development, he announced this week.
“The phenomenon of fatherless families poses one of the most serious threats to both the health and safety of California’s children and society as a whole,” Wilson said in a statement Thursday. The governor this year had promised to hold a meeting on the need for a father’s presence in a child’s life.
Among those expected to participate are various community leaders as well as several nationally known authors and representatives of organizations such as the conservative Heritage Foundation.
The governor said his California Focus on Fathers Summit will be underwritten by private donations.
