LANCASTER — An alleged robber killed in a shootout early Thursday at a Lancaster bowling alley was identified Friday as Dwayne Floyd, 26, of Los Angeles, a Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman said.
The man’s name had been withheld until his family could be notified, coroner’s spokesman David Campbell said.
Sheriff’s deputies said Floyd, wearing a ski mask and pointing a handgun, tried to rob the Brunswick Sands Bowl as several employees were closing the business. While Floyd was distracted, a bowling center mechanic, Robert Shields, 30, drew a handgun from his own waistband and shot at Floyd, investigators said.
Floyd was struck in the chest and died at the scene. Shields, who was hit in the arm during an exchange of fire with Floyd, received treatment at a local hospital and then was released. Deputies said Shields had armed himself because he was concerned about his safety while working outside on his car at a late hour.
