In other Orange Empire baseball games:

Riverside 6, Rancho Santiago 1--Travis Harford pitched a five-hitter and was helped by five double plays for host Riverside (9-4, 1-0). Toby Sanchez singled and scored on an error in the seventh for Rancho Santiago (12-3, 0-1).

Golden West 7, Saddleback 4--Art Francis gave up one run and four hits and struck out four in 4 1/3 innings of relief to earn the victory. Garrett Vitale had two hits, including a two-run home run, in the third inning for visiting Golden West (8-7, 1-0).

Sam Voita had a home run and scored two runs for Saddleback (7-6, 0-1). Jon Lauderdale had two hits, including a double, and Jose Gonzalez added two hits and an RBI for Saddleback.

In nonconference baseball:

Palomar 9, Orange Coast 2--Palomar jumped on the Gauchos for nine runs and 14 hits. Forest Long went two for four with a run scored for Saddleback (8-8).

In the Cypress softball tournament:

Cypress 4, Grossmont 0--Christa Saindon had a run-scoring double for Cypress (8-2) in the semifinal game. Saindon also had two RBIs to lead Cypress over San Bernardino, 4-1, in the first round, and had an RBI to lift the Chargers past College of the Canyons, 8-1, in the quarterfinals.
