OUTLOOK
The Griffins struggled last season in the Empire League and now move into the county’s toughest league. There’s no telling if Los Alamitos will be able to make a dent in its new schedule, but the Griffins will be one of the league’s tallest teams--they have six players over 5-10--and might provide an upset along the way. Los Alamitos should be bolstered by the return of Fulp, who missed last season because of a broken foot, and the arrival of Nunley, who transferred from Long Beach St. Anthony; together, they should provide some much-needed experience and talent to go with Nichols (5.0 points per game) and Katie Ensley (6.0 points, 5.0 rebounds). Appleby and Amy Ensley improved greatly over the summer and the 6-4 Geoffroy should develop into a defensive force. The team is missing an important cog in its structure: a point guard who can get the ball inside. Donberg--the most valuable player on the junior varsity team last season--is one candidate.
