World IN BRIEF : FRANCE : Bangladeshi Writer Gets Rights Award

Taslima Nasrin, the Bangladeshi writer threatened with death by Islamic fundamentalists, received one of France’s top human rights awards. The Human Rights Freedom, Equality and Brotherhood medal was presented to Nasrin by Foreign Minister Alain Juppe. Nasrin fled to Sweden in August after being charged with blasphemy in Bangladesh. Muslim groups want her executed for allegedly saying in a newspaper interview that the Koran, Islam’s holy book, should be changed.
