PICO RIVERA : Council Drops Plan to Hold Fewer Meetings

The City Council has shelved a proposal to reduce the number of council meetings.
Mayor Beatrice Proo and Councilman John G. Chavez opposed the plan by Vice Mayor Garth G. Gardner.
“I didn’t support it from the outset,” Proo said. “We need to conduct business in a timely manner and offer an opportunity for input from the public. I’d say this is a dead issue.”
Gardner suggested reducing the number of meetings of the council and other city agencies to save money. Under his plan, the council would have met once every three weeks or once a month instead of every two weeks.
