Asthmatic Teacher Files Endangerment Claim
- Share via
A high school teacher claims the school’s principal intentionally endangered his life by not allowing the teacher to seek medical care for his asthmatic condition.
Ruben Romero, a graphic arts and silk-screening instructor at Mark Keppel High School, said Principal Rudy Chavez has harassed him for complaining about a Feb. 3 incident in which Romero was not allowed to leave the school after suffering an asthma attack.
Romero’s claim, filed with the school district Nov. 21, names Chavez and Heber Meeks, superintendent of the Alhambra City and High School Districts. Meeks and Chavez declined to comment.
Romero, who has taught at Mark Keppel for 24 years, said in the claim that he must use a special breathing machine when his asthma flares up.
