For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* Keep after fallen leaves and spent flowers. They can harbor unwanted pests and diseases.

* Continue the show of color right through winter with fairy primroses, pansies, violas, Iceland poppies and stock.

* Tulips are synonymous with spring. Be sure to plant some this fall.

* Berry bushes need to be pruned. Cut out last season’s canes that had fruit and train new growth onto a trellis or similar support.

* Lift and divide phlox and primroses this week.
