Rubbish-Dumpers Are Trashing the System

Come on, homeowners in the west San Fernando Valley: Why are you still dumping refuse unrelated to the earthquake at your curbside with quake materials for free pickup by the city?
The Times recently ran an article stating Los Angeles had thus far spent $61 million for earthquake removal and dumping and its services are expected to continue till Jan. 17, the anniversary of the quake. Would you hazard a guess on these final costs, ultimately born by the taxpayer?
As I ride my bike in the Chatsworth area, I see supposed quake-damage materials at the curb which include garage refuse, Christmas boxes and tree branches. What do these have to do with the quake?
Contractors should have been responsible for all debris resulting from their reconstruction.
It is time for Valleyites to exhibit some pride and responsibility in their towns.
