Dayton Hudson Denies Sale Rumors: A Women’s Wear Daily report that the company may be considering selling its department store division to St. Louis-based May Department Stores is erroneous, Dayton Hudson Corp. said. The report said Minneapolis-based Dayton Hudson may want to sell the unit--composed of the Dayton’s, Hudson’s and Marshall Field’s department stores--to help finance the expansion of its Target discount stores. “We’re not interested in selling the department stores,” said Dayton Hudson spokeswoman Gail Dorn. “There are no deals being struck and no negotiations.” A spokesman for May Department Stores, operator of the Robinsons-May chain, said the company “does not comment on speculation.”
