Forget About Others, Look for Cold-Water Lunkers

The Eastern Sierra trout season has ended, but Southern California’s is only beginning, as the state is finally beginning to stock local waters with the cold-water fish.
Best bet is Irvine Lake, where a private plant of trophy-sized rainbow and German brown trout has anglers supplied with Power Bait pulling out lunkers.
Jose Hernandez of Harbor City took the biggest to date, a 12-pound 8-ounce rainbow from the lake’s west shore.
Corona Lake figures to compete, however. Truckloads of trout--7,500 pounds worth--will be dumped into the tiny lake this week in preparation for Friday’s opener.
