NEWPORT BEACH : Fire Department Gets Grant for Computer
- Share via
The Fire Department has received a $5,304 grant from the state Department of Toxic Substances Control.
The grant was about $3,000 less than the department had requested, but is still enough to pay for a laptop computer for the city’s hazardous-materials response crew van.
Fire Department spokesman Paul Mathias said the computer will allow firefighters easy access to volumes of information in cumbersome books and should shorten containment time for many incidents.
The Newport Beach crew works in conjunction with one from Huntington Beach to respond to hazardous-materials emergencies in northwestern Orange County cities.
