Opponents of an initiative that would deny a host of public benefits to illegal immigrants will take to the streets Wednesday to urge defeat of the Nov. 8 ballot measure.
Foes of Proposition 187 will march from Ventura College to the Ventura County Government Center starting at 2 p.m. A rally is scheduled to take place at the government center at 4:30.
The ballot measure would deny schooling, non-emergency health care and other public benefits to illegal immigrants.
“Our effort is to try to get out the vote and to demonstrate what would happen in our community if Proposition 187 passes,” said Armando Garcia, head of the Ventura County Immigrant Rights Coalition.
