SANTA CLARITA / ANTELOPE VALLEY : Newhall Outage Causes Traffic Jam

NEWHALL — Faulty power lines failed Sunday in Newhall, snarling traffic and knocking out power to more than 1,000 residents for two hours, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.
No accidents or injuries were caused by the outage, which occurred at 2:18 p.m. at a Southern California Edison substation and left 1,173 customers without power, said Sgt. Jim Morrow. Power was restored at 4:31 p.m.
The outage also knocked out traffic lights at several intersections. To help clear up traffic jams, Santa Clarita crews erected temporary stop signs at intersections.
Cher Vierra, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison, said the outage was caused by a bad section of electrical lines at the company’s Newhall substation. The lines were replaced by Edison crews.
