SANTA PAULA : Pedestrian, 28, Is Shot in the Face

A 28-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition Friday after being shot in the face by an unknown assailant as he walked on a Santa Paula street, police said.
Raymond Samaniego of Santa Paula was walking with a female companion in the 100 block of Santa Maria Street when he heard someone shout from a passing car, authorities said.
Samaniego turned to look and was struck once in the face, police said. The bullet lodged in the back of his head.
Samaniego was transported by private vehicle to Santa Paula Hospital, than transferred to Ventura County Medical Center.
Police said there was no known motive for the assault. An investigation was continuing.
