Countywide : Forum to Address Children’s Welfare

People who want to help Orange County children lead better lives are invited to a countywide meeting on youth welfare.
Organizers of the second Summit for Children will bring together people from universities, health care agencies and other groups in late September in Costa Mesa. Neighborhood, businesses and government leaders will suggest goals for improving living conditions for youths.
Orange County has experienced a 42% increase in child poverty in the past 10 years, organizers said. They also noted that less than half of the county’s 2-year-old children have been immunized against disease.
Bringing community members together for a summit could help find solutions for children’s hardships, organizers said.
Sponsors include the United Way of Orange County, Children’s Hospital of Orange County and several county government agencies. The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24, at the Robert B. Moore Theatre at Orange Coast College.
A $5 registration fee includes a box lunch, but attendees must register by Sept. 21 to ensure they will be served. Information: (714) 432-5880.
