* Re “Brewer May Have to Reply on Recycled Waste Water,” Aug. 3:
As a former member of the L.A. Regional Water Quality Control Board and of the Metropolitan Water District’s board of directors, I have long been a proponent of reclaiming our sewage to add to our diminishing supplies of water. I still support the reuse of such water, via separate piping, for industrial applications and landscaping but not for potable uses.
Now, with the proliferation of new and more virulent, cure-resistant forms of viruses and bacteria, I believe we must be even more cautious about what we allow into our aquifers, our drinking water and our beer.
We have an obligation to protect the health-sensitive and immune-system-impaired among us. A toast to Miller Brewing Co. It is better to err on the side of caution and protect the integrity of our potable water supplies.
