Machinists Union Sued Over UAL Buyout Role: A class-action suit filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago asks for a new vote by the union’s members on participating in the proposed $4.9-billion employee buyout of UAL Corp., United Airlines’ parent company. UAL shareholders are scheduled to vote on the proposal July 12. The suit contends that an earlier vote approving the buyout was taken before union members had time to fully understand details of the plan and that “many provisions were not clearly explained.” Some shareholders previously sued UAL seeking to stop the buyout. A hearing on that suit is set for Wednesday in Delaware.
