Angela Lakeberg

What a tragedy. Angela Lakeberg died June 9 after nearly a year of struggle and extraordinary medical efforts. She had less than a 1% chance of survival, but she was subjected to a brief life of ventilators and tubes.
Who benefited? Certainly not Angela. She was probably in pain or discomfort throughout this ordeal. Imagine what must have been going on in her infant mind thoughout the entire time.
This seems to have been an ego trip for the physicians at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. An extraordinary experiment without regard to the suffering or outcome. The physicias at Loyola Medical Center in Illinois were right when they refused to perform the separation on ethical grounds in view of the low expectation of survival. RICHARD ORFORD Hermosa Beach
