Where Are They Now? : TOM EGAN

Signed as a “bonus baby” out of high school, Egan made his major league debut with the Angels in 1965 at 19 and eventually became their starting catcher. But he was beaned by the Detroit Tigers’ Earl Wilson in 1969, suffered a broken jaw and never regained complete sight in his right eye. After being traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1971, he rejoined the Angels in 1974 and retired the next year with a disappointing .200 career average.

Egan, 48, lives with his wife in Arizona and is an account executive for a trucking company. Although his children are grown, he still spends much of his spare time coaching Little League teams and plays in charity golf tournaments.
