Where Are They Now? : CLYDE WRIGHT

Times staff writer David W. Myers catches up with former Dodgers and Angels

Wright’s brief career seemed to be over when he was waived by the Angels after a 1-8 season in 1969 and no other team claimed him. But the left-hander learned how to throw a screwball while playing winter ball, was re-signed by the club, and threw a no-hitter against Oakland on his way to a 22-12 record in 1970. He retired in 1975 with a 100-111 record.

Wright, 53, still lives in Anaheim and runs a pitching school for ballplayers of all ages. He also works for the Angels’ speakers bureau, warning about the dangers of drugs. Wright’s son, Jaret, is a pitcher at Anaheim Katella High who was picked by Cleveland in the first round of last week’s amateur draft.
