SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Johnston Pitches Paraclete Past Crossroads, 3-0

Jamie Johnston pitched a six-hitter, striking out six and walking three to lead Paraclete High to a 3-0 victory over Crossroads in a Southern Section Division V semifinal softball game Tuesday at Lancaster City Park.
The shutout was the 12th of the season for Johnston (18-5) and propelled the second-seeded Spirits into Saturday’s championship game against Cerritos Valley Christian, a 3-0 winner over La Reina in the other semifinal.
Paraclete (20-4-5) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Ariena Bass’ double. Bass later scored on a fielding error. Jessica Jackson’s single added a run in the fourth.
Crossroads, the defending Division V champion, finished the season with 21-7 record.
Cerritos Valley Christian 3, La Reina 0--Jennifer Baltruzak pitched a four-hitter and struck out five, but La Reina (17-10) committed four errors in the Division V semifinal at the Cerritos Sports Complex.
The Regents were held to one hit--Sara Heiler’s one-out infield single in the sixth--by Suzie Schoales, who struck out 10.
Bishop Amat 3, Canyon 1--Chrissy Gil had two triples and pitched 4 1/3 innings to lead Bishop Amat in the Southern Section Division II semifinals at Charter Oak High.
With two out in the top of the third inning, Gil (11-2) came on to pitch the rest of the way, allowing only one hit and striking out six.
Canyon finished 19-6-1.
