28 Drunk-Driving Arrests Reported

The California Highway Patrol arrested 28 suspected drunken drivers in Ventura County over the Memorial Day weekend, down from 40 arrests last year, officials said Tuesday.
Last year, one person died in a drunk-driving accident, but there were no fatalities over this year’s 78-hour maximum enforcement period that began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at midnight Monday, CHP Officer Staci Morse said.
“We had a good weekend,” Morse said. “The awareness level is starting to elevate among people.”
Morse said heightened media coverage and ongoing educational programs have caused more residents to avoid drinking and driving, and to use designated drivers.
