Fourth-seeded Andrei Medvedev of Ukraine defeated Bernd Karbacher of Germany, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the third round of the German Open at Hamburg.
Medvedev announced earlier that his new coach will be Brad Stine, former coach of Jim Courier.
