The Asian Pacific American Education Commission of the Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking parents, students, professionals and community members interested in applying for one of four vacancies on the commission.
The panel is one of seven appointed by the Board of Education to serve in an ombudsman role for the various ethnic groups represented by students and district employees.
Carmencita Davino, director of the commission office, said they are looking for people who are interested in working to improve educational opportunities for Asian Pacific American students. Candidates should also be able to represent the commission at school and community functions, and serve as a liaison between the schools and community.
There is a particular need for representation from the San Fernando Valley, Davino said.
Commissioners are required to attend one evening meeting a month and be available for other duties. They serve a two-year term on a voluntary basis. For information, call (213) 625-6796.
