AJ Congress on Haiti
“Seeking Common Ground” (April 25) incorrectly implied that no Jewish organization has criticized our government’s policy of denying political asylum to Haitian refugees. As far back as May, 1992, the American Jewish Congress blasted the Bush Administration for ignoring the plight of the Haitian refugees. Since that time, AJ Congress has continued to press for a change in Administration policy.
In December, 1992, AJ Congress and the National Rainbow Coalition launched a new mobilization on the common legislative agenda shared by both organizations. Included on the common agenda was reversing the Bush Administration’s cruel policy of forcibly repatriating Haitian refugees.
