Utah State Signs Sylmar’s Patton

Sylmar High defensive back Dwight Patton signed a letter of intent to play football at Utah State, Sylmar Coach Jeff Engilman said Tuesday.
Patton, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound All-East Valley League selection, took a recruiting trip to Utah State last weekend, one week after receiving a score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test that met NCAA requirements. It was the only recruiting trip taken by Patton.
“It was a big load off his mind,” Engilman said. “He’s been rejuvenated.”
Patton, who was also the Spartans’ leading receiver with 24 catches for 468 yards and five touchdowns, is the third Sylmar player from the 1993 team to earn a scholarship. Running back Tyrone Crenshaw signed with Michigan State and defensive back Robert Camacho will play for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
