Firings of Mexican Workers Challenged: The Teamsters and United Electrical Workers challenged the firings of Mexican workers by two U.S. companies, filing complaints with the National Administrative Office set up under the North American Free Trade Agreement. The Teamsters’ complaint was against Honeywell Inc.; the United Electrical Workers cited General Electric Co. Soon after Congress approved NAFTA, workers were fired by Honeywell in Chihuahua and by GE in Juarez, for leading labor-organization drives, the unions said. They asked the National Administrative Office to force the companies to reinstate the workers, and to allow Mexican employees to form and join unions without intimidation from management.
