BOGOTA, Colombia — A gas leak in Colombia’s third-largest city killed three people and poisoned at least 300 Friday, causing widespread panic as residents scrambled to escape to cleaner air.
The disaster occurred around midnight in four neighborhoods in east Cali, 185 miles southwest of Bogota.
Chloride gas in the underground sewage system seeped into homes as most residents slept, said Gen. Jose Reyes, commander of Cali’s police department.
