BREA : City OKs Staggered, No-Work Fridays
- Share via
In an effort to save money, city workers will extend working hours Mondays through Thursdays and take every other Friday off beginning Monday.
City officials said employees will work from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every other Friday. Streets that are cleaned on Fridays will now be swept on Wednesdays.
In addition, the Brea Civic and Cultural Center, including City Hall, will be closed on the days employees do not work. Exceptions are police and firefighters, who will work, and the Brea Senior Center, which will remain open when all other city offices are closed.
The first non-workday Friday will be Feb. 11.
By using the new working hours, the city will save about $100,000 in utility and maintenance costs annually and comply with strict air quality requirements imposed by the Air Quality Management District.
