Andy Koopman recently resigned from his position as softball coach at El Modena High, citing burnout as the primary reason, Koopman said Thursday.
Koopman spent four seasons coaching the softball team, helping the Vanguards earn a share of the Century League championship last season. The Vanguards reached the Southern Section Division I quarterfinals, where they lost to eventual champion Simi Valley, 1-0.
Koopman, who also helps coach El Modena’s lower-level volleyball and girls’ basketball programs, will continue in those roles. He will also continue to teach special education at El Modena.

Kara Hartl, a senior at El Modena, has orally committed to attend Harvard in the fall, her mother, Barbara, said Thursday.
Hartl, a first baseman and catcher, batted .321 last year for the Vanguards.
