Klaas’ Accused Killer Cleared in ’73 Death

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Investigators on Thursday said there was no evidence linking the accused killer of Polly Klaas to a La Honda woman’s death 20 years ago, and authorities again ruled the death a suicide.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department initially ruled Marlene Voris’ death a suicide but reopened the 1973 case after Richard Allan Davis was arrested in connection with the kidnaping and murder of 12-year-old Polly.
Davis had said that he witnessed Voris’ death. Voris, 18, died of a shotgun blast to the head during a party to celebrate her acceptance into a military academy.
