The City Council on Tuesday is to consider imposing tougher restrictions on leaf blowers to cut down on nuisance noise and dust.
The new restrictions would allow the use of leaf blowers from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Currently, leaf blowers can be used from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. any day.
Violators would be issued warnings or fined as much as $225 for each of the first three violations if the ordinance is approved. A person would be charged with a misdemeanor for the fourth violation.
Councilman Douglas S. Drummond proposed the restrictions after receiving numerous complaints from residents.
