GLENDALE : City to Buy Site for Low-Income Housing

The Glendale Housing Authority will pay a homeowner $204,000 to buy her property for use as a site for housing for low-income senior citizens.
Housing Authority members voted unanimously Tuesday to purchase Alexis Dabko’s single-story home on West Garfield Avenue. Her property is the fifth lot that city officials have bought as part of a plan to help the Salvation Army in Glendale construct an 83-unit apartment complex for low-income senior citizens, said Beth Stochl, a city administrative analyst.
The proposed $7-million project in southwest Glendale would replace several homes and apartment buildings on West Garfield Avenue, and would incorporate two adjoining parcels owned by the Salvation Army on Windsor Road. A dozen families would be relocated with the city’s help, if needed, Stochl said.
Dabko, who lives with her mother and is waiting for escrow to close on a Burbank home, and a tenant renting a small unit on the property will have 90 days to vacate the property, Stochl said.
