PIRU : Salinas Man Shot in Freeway Robbery

A 46-year-old Salinas man was shot in the chest early Thursday by three men who allegedly robbed him on the Santa Paula Freeway near Piru, authorities said.
Erich Edward Morris was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Santa Paula Hospital late Thursday.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Morris was shot and robbed of $15,000 by three men who stopped his vehicle just before 4 a.m. by shooting out a rear tire 10 to 20 miles east of Fillmore. The three suspects also stole Morris’ small-caliber handgun. Authorities have no one in custody.
Morris told deputies he then drove to Fillmore. He was found bleeding inside his car in the parking lot of Angel’s Donuts.
Calls to the Sheriff’s Department were referred to the major crimes unit, which is investigating the case.
