Laverty Named Chief Executive of Smart & Final Inc.: The Los Angeles-based grocery company reported that President Roger (Rocky) M. Laverty III has been elected to the additional post of chief executive effective Jan. 1, 1994. Robert J. Emmons will remain as chairman of the board and will also continue as chief executive officer of Casino USA, Smart & Final Inc.’s largest shareholder. Emmons will also serve as chairman of the newly formed executive operating committee that will consist of Emmons, Laverty, and Martin A. Lynch, executive vice president and chief financial officer.
