COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Works Hits 15 of 20 Shots to Lead Cypress

Sara Works scored 32 points and had 16 rebounds to lead Cypress to an 81-49 victory against Long Beach Thursday in the first round of the Cypress tournament.
Works was 15 of 20 from the field for Cypress (7-1). Tamika Harold added 12 points. Cypress plays San Diego Mesa in the semifinals tonight.
In the first round of the Visalia women’s tournament:
Fullerton 89, Fresno 77--Nikki Kubota scored 18 points and Nikki Clark added 16 for Fullerton (6-3), which made 22 of its 24 free-throws. The Hornets advance to play Cupertino De Anza in the second round. Fresno is 3-6.
In the Orange Coast men’s basketball tournament:
Orange Coast 75, Chaffey 69--Derek Roche scored 23 points, including five three-pointers, and had nine rebounds, and Chauncey Woolridge added 17 points for Orange Coast (6-0), which led 33-27 at the half. The Pirates play Long Beach, a 102-99 winner over Mt. San Antonio tonight at 8 p.m.
Irvine Valley 71, Santa Barbara 62--Damon Sims scored 16 points and Rashad Wilson added 12 for Irvine (4-2). Steve Ransom had 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Lasers play Cerritos, a 81-69 winner over Imperial Valley, at 6 p.m. today in the second round.
In the Grossmont men’s basketball tournament:
Rancho Santiago 88, Palomar 79--Sean Amos scored 24 points and Matt Kordik had 16 for Rancho Santiago (6-2).
In the Cuesta women’s basketball tournament:
Foothill 69, Orange Coast 56--Leann Kavmer had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Dawn Garonski had 12 points for the Pirates (5-3) in a first-round loss.
