OUTLOOK
Murphy takes over the Chargers, who have won only two league games the past two seasons. But Murphy knows about tough challenges--she coached the Corona del Mar junior varsity last year and led the Sea Kings to a 10-4, third-place finish in the Sea View League. Murphy, whose husband is the Sonora boys’ coach, Mike Murphy, says her team has a good bit of talent and therefore has the potential to be strong. Janell Jewett and Bruce, all-league honorable mention selections as sophomores, are each a year older. Jewett averaged 10 rebounds last season and will be counted on for more scoring. Harnden is the team leader at point guard, and Bruce and newcomers Hamer and Lauby are softball players. “I’m not looking to win league by any means,” Murphy said. “I’m hoping to at least be competitive and look forward to next year.” Next year, El Toro moves to the Sea View League.
